Wanneroo-Ocean Reef Road Relocation Project

ATCO GAS | Western Australia

Overview

The ATCO Gas Wanneroo-Ocean Reef Road Relocation Project required the relocation of approximately 250m x DN100 CL150 carbon steel, 500m x DN150 CL150 carbon steel gas pipelines, approximately 500m of DN160 PVC gas pipeline and relocation of a High-Pressure Regulator pit.

Enscope provided detailed design and construction site support services to complete the Project in conjunction with ATCO Gas.

Project facts

SCOPE

  • Construction of approximately 250m x DN100 CL150 carbon steel, 500m x DN150 CL150 carbon steel gas pipelines, approximately 500m of DN160 PVC gas pipeline and fabrication and installation of a new High-Pressure Regulator pit
  • 3 x HDD installation sections, 2 of which were under trafficable roads
  • 2 x Hot Tap tie-ins to ensure uninterrupted gas supply
  • 2 x Stopple isolations to allow for safe disconnection and abandonment of redundant pipeline sections

CLIENT

  • ATCO Gas

LOCATION

  • Pearsall, Western Australia

DATES

  • Aug 2019 to early 2020

ROLES & SERVICES

  • Dedicated Site Engineering Resource
  • Design and project engineering
  • Construction technical support

KEY CHALLENGES

  • Restricted working space within congested road reserves and multiple utilities re-aligning assets within a restricted common corridor.
  • SIMOPS management during parallel construction of gas pipelines, road modifications (including regular traffic alignment changes) and third party asset modifications
  • Maintaining 100% pipeline operation during all phases of the project works

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Safe and timely delivery of the modifications without gas supply interruption
  • Decommissioning and abandonment of existing pipeline assets clashing with reduced road levels and piling locations so as to allow the road modification works to continue safely as planned
