  • EPC Contract Management
  • Site management & Principal Contractor obligations

The Kennedy Energy Park project established a 50 MW hybrid renewable generator connected to the distribution network in northern Queensland.

A first-of-its-kind, the project includes a 16.5 MWac solar PV system, 43.2 MW wind turbine generation and a 2 MW / 4 MWh BESS which provides renewable power to the Ergon Energy network via a single 50 MW grid connection. The project scope also included the delivery of two new substations which were transferred to the DNSP (Ergon Energy) upon completion.

The project was executed via an EPC contract engagement with Kennedy Energy Park Pty Ltd. Quanta Services Australia formed a joint venture with Vestas Wind Technology (wind turbine OEM) to deliver the
EPC contract scope.

ROLES & SERVICES
  • Enscope’s role included the lead EPC entity and Project Director position, as well as the co-ordination of the Quanta Services Australia works
  • Enscope was directly responsible for overall site management, coordinating the various Quanta operating units, Vestas and various subcontractors
  • Enscope was responsible for all site earthworks and civils, utilising the services of local civil subcontractors
  • Enscope was directly responsible for solar PV design, construction supervision and commissioning
  • Enscope fulfilled the overall Project Management role for the EPC Contractor
KEY CHALLENGES
  • Aggressive schedule to ensure construction during dry season – including design and procurement of long lead items to facilitate this
  • Challenging expansive soil conditions and flash flooding considerations in solar park and civil infrastructure
  • Integration of wind, solar and battery into a first of its kind facility
  • Rapidly changing regulatory environment with frequent new requirements from DNSP and regulator to address
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Design, procurement and construction completed to program
  • Successful integration of approximately 20% local content in the works – contractors and suppliers, including significant upskilling of local small contractors in relation to safety, planning and quality
  • Broad employment of local residents into workforce, including training for PV assembly
